Glazing refers to the front protective
covering of the picture, generally glass or acrylic. There are a wide variety
of glazing options available today.
1.
Regular or Clear Glass - Flaw-free with a
slight green cast due to iron and other minerals found in the sand used to
produce the glass.
2. Non-Glare/Reflection Control
- When glare is a problem and clarity isn’t an issue, we use a product etched
on only one side resulting in greater clarity and less fuzziness.
3. UV Protective/Conservation
- Available both Clear and Reflection Control, it is optically coated glass
that filters out 97% of the damaging Ultraviolet rays. It is a minimum
recommendation for all conservation framing.
4. Conservation UltraClear®/UV Blocking
Water-White - When the slight greenish
cast of glass is an issue, a water-white (iron-free) option is available. It
also has UV protection.
5. Anti-Reflective/Denglass®
- A multi-optically-coated glass which diffuses the light waves creating a
“disappearing” effect or very low reflection. It also allows more light in
making colors appear stronger.
6. Museum/UV Protected Anti-Reflective
- The premier glass, it has the same “disappearing” effect as the
Anti-Reflective glass with the addition of UV protection.
7. Acrylic/Plexi/Plexiglas®
- Acrylic is used mainly where size, breakage, and/or weight is an issue. It
comes in Regular/Clear, Non-Glare, Anti-Abrasion, and UV Filtering. Acrylic is
shatter resistant making it better suited for public buildings, hospitals, and
children’s rooms. Regular window cleaners should NEVER be used with Acrylic.
