Drymounting is the total adhesion of
an article to a board rendering it completely flat and ripple-free. The
mounting process can actually include a variety of methods: Dry, wet, spray, or
pressure sensitive. While drymounting is the preferred method for ease and
durability, it is achieved with adhesive tissue, heat, and pressure. Not all
items can tolerate heat and alternative methods are then required. Drymounting
is considered permanent, although an acid free removable tissue can be used on
an acid free board creating a better archival environment. Because total
restriction is the end result, it is NOT considered a conservation method.
