Letter from the Commander

Another Memorial Day Parade is behind us and the Post Officers wish to thank all involved for a successful parade. As always, Post 440 looked sharp. Sgt at Arms Larry Kerwood handles the rifle squad like he has done it before and enjoys it. Norm Moorhead smiled and waved at his Newtown fans all along the Parade route and Dan Fraley made a great speech. He speaks for all of us and we appreciate it. Ed Hackett as MC and Chuck Resch as Chaplain did excellent work. both did fine work. Jimmy G did a good job on his first venture as Parade Chairman and will repeat next year. It was great to see Rich Gresko at the Parade this year. Parade directors for life, Pat Higgins and Joe Premo kept everything moving smoothly as always.

Special thanks to the wives who manned the Post for refreshments following the Parade. They are an essential part of our day and we appreciate their assistance.
A big thank you goes to our Post caterer, Jean VanderGast for volunteering her time and expertise. Her potato salad always gets rave reviews!

As always the Memorial Day Observance at Council Rock went well and was a sober and reflective morning. It is important to remember our deceased brothers and sisters all year and not just Memorial Day. Col. Dan Rabini made a fine speech which was well received by the students.

Chuck Resch will be looking for volunteers to deliver the school awards again this year. Reach out to Chuck if interested.

Remember that the Post is available for Graduation Parties; so let your friends and neighbors know it.

VETERAN'S DAY  - 2018

Council Rock HS North Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 Muster @ 8:30 AM Ceremony starts approx. 9:00 AM The uniform of the day for Legion members is blue blazer, white shirt, Legion tie and garrison cap.

Veterans Day, 2018, will be celebrated on Friday, November 9 at Council Rock North High School in a ceremony hosted by the Council Rock North Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Principle Susan C. McCarthy, Vice Principle Daniel Griesbaum and the Morell Smith Post 440 of the American Legion in Newtown.

Last year’s Veterans Day event was very successful and rewarding for both students and veterans alike. All veterans are invited to attend. If your uniform still fits, please feel free to wear it.

Goodnoe Elementary Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 9:20 AM Good Afternoon Wonderful Veterans!

I send this letter with a great amount of gratitude. I feel so blessed to live in a country where I am free, I can vote, and I can help to hold an important assembly such as this!

My name is Megan Benzio. I am a 5th grade teacher at Goodnoe Elementary. I am the daughter and sister of US Marines (granddaughter, great granddaughter, etc). I was told that someone in my family has served in every war that the US fought in since 1776!

I get the lucky job of recruiting veterans for our Veterans Day assembly 2018.

If you are able to make it to Goodnoe Elementary on 11/12/2018 at 9:20 AM, please let me know by typing your name, and what branch of service your were/are, and your email address below. It will save every letter as you type! If you have a friend who is a vet that can come, please let them know, and add their name to the list below as well. I have entered my dad’s name, Jim McPeak first, as an example. I will be sending out a map of where to park as the event draws near.

Thank you for your service, and I hope you can come!

Fondly,

Megan Benzio
