VETERANíS DAY (Nov. 10) will be celebrated at Council Rock North (in the cafeteria) with a breakfast hosted and served by the Student Council.  You are asked to arrive by 8:30.  Uniform of the Day: blue blazer, grey trousers, white shirt, tie, and Legion hat.  (If you donít have those, you can wear your legion shirt and baseball cap.)  If your uniform still fits, wear it.  Just like last year, organized by the Student Council, so a nice turnout would be appreciated.   If you would like to speak to students and answer questions (easier than you think), please talk to Tom Yaegel.  Our guest speaker this year is an Army nurse who served in 1968-1969 at Walter Reed Hospital treating our returning Vietnam vets.

Goodnoe Elementary Veteransí Day Assembly:   When:  Friday, November 10, 2017, Where:  Goodnoe Elementary School Gymnasium,  298 Frost Lane, Newtown, Pa. Time:  2:15 PM  Veterans please meet at American Legion Post at 1:30 PM  If interested, please call Chuck at 215-504-4630 or email Chuck at Chuckresch@verizon.net

The Post Elvis Show  is December 2nd.  If you have not purchased a ticket yet it would be wise to call Frank Walser (215-968-6204) and hope there are a couple left.  Frank would also appreciate it if you could donate a few scratch-off lottery tickets for a lottery tree in the silent auction.  The show and silent auction benefit YOUR Post.

All members are reminded to contact our Service Officer Skip Scarborough

If you know of a member who is sick or needs assistance (267-968-6146)

If you have not signed up for VA health care, you should consider doing it now.  If not, when you need it you wonít be able to get it.

If you need a Legion garrison cap or shirt, please contact our Quartermaster Kyle Davis.

(267-251-3524) and he will be glad to assist you.  If you are not on the Post e-mail list, contact Jimmy G. (215-631-2895) (our Post geek/IT guy)

Playoffs are now underway. In a first-round Ďplay-iní game Newtown defeated Yardley-Morrisville 7-3 to earn the #7 seed, thus winning the right to meet Northampton in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, the team fell to Northampton 13-0 to enter the losersí bracket where the next day they also fell to the Langhorne team by a score of 8-1.

The team is a young team with a new coach which ended the season with two of their pitchers among the league leaders in ERA. This bodes well for the promise of a successful 2018 season.

Thanks to all who supported the team by attending one of their games.

WEST POINT SABRE PRESENTED TO POST 440

Post 440 Presentation to Eagle Scout from Troop 99 - 8/7/16

Once again, Post 440 is at the forefront of American Legion activities and events.

Dedication of POW/MIA chair at the
new Doylestown Courthouse for
Capt. Ralph W. Galati, U.S.A.F.,
downed pilot in the Vietnam War.

A Great Story for our Post.

The story was that John McGovern, Jim Anderson and John Heenan (all Post members) met Gen. Brady Wed., July 1, 2015 at the AOH in Swedesberg, PA. General Brady gave a brief talk about the Irish role in receiving the Medal of Honor from the Civil War up to today. 70% of MOH recipients were Irish. Also discussed was the MOH grove in Valley Forge.

While in college at Seattle University, Pat Brady initially hated the compulsory ROTC program and was kicked out. Then, realizing he would probably be drafted after graduation he reentered the ROTC to enter the service as an officer.

After graduation he was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps in 1959. During his two tours in Vietnam he flew over 2,000 combat missions and evacuated more than 5,000 wounded.

He was one of only two men to receive BOTH the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Major General in 1993 after 34 years of service.
