Thanks to our House Committee you will be seeing many physical changes to your Post in 2018.

We are always looking for new members for the Post and the honor guard. If you are interested, please see your Sgt. At Arms Larry Kerwood at the General Membership Meeting.

A dinner honoring our National Commander Denise Rohan and our State Commander Paul Kennedy will be held at the Nash-Kraft Post 255 in Sellersville, 75 North Main Street on March 19th at 7PM (cash bar open at 6 PM) . All Post members are welcome to attend; cost is $25 a head. Legion dress code of blue Blazer, grey trousers, white shirt, Legion tie and garrison cap is required. We have been told from members who went last year that the food is quite good. We already have a few members attending. This has been sent out in a Post Blast along with the invitation.

The Post welcomed two new members at the January meeting: Pat Becker and Ted Bruski, both Staff Sgts. in the Air Force. Welcome aboard.
Ted also volunteered to be then next Jim Casey as Parade Chairman.

Have any ideas to improve OUR Post or help us on our mission of assisting our fellow vets? Speak to the Commander any time, before, after or at our meetings.

ALL HALL RENTALS AND APPOINTMENTS  MUST BE  CLEARED THRU JEAN.
~ NO EXCEPTIONS ~

PLEASE NOTE: I am removing this (as of 2/28/18) due to the fact that I cannot verify the Veteran's ID Card situation.

Veterans ID Cards are Coming.

The Department of Veterans Affairs reportedly will begin issuing ID cards next month to any veteran who requests one through the agency's website www.va.gov. The cards will not replace any official cards and will not have the rule of law behind them, but they will allow a veteran to prove his or her service for various activities, such as shopping discounts or reduced ticket prices.

What is a Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) and how do I get one?

The Department of Veterans Affairs provides a Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) for veterans to use at VA medical facilities. The VHIC will be issued only to veterans who are eligible for VA medical benefits and only for the purpose of identification and check-in for VA medical appointments. The card protects personal privacy by not showing Social Security Numbers or dates of birth on the front of the cards. For more information on VHIC, go to www.va.gov/healthbenefits/vhic/index.asp

VA has Service Connected, POW and Purple Heart (PH) indicators on the VHIC. Veterans who have been awarded service-connected status after their VHIC has been issued or SC status is not properly documented on their card, will need to present their letter showing their SC rating to the eligibility clerk at the local VA Medical Center where they obtain treatment. After verification, the eligibility clerk will submit a request through the VHIC system for a new card to be issued to the veteran.

Once a veteran has his/her picture taken for the card at the VA medical facility, the card will be mailed to the veteran at the address that has been provided. To ensure that a veteran receives the VHIC, the veteran should please verify that VA has the correct address on file. If the U.S. Postal Service cannot deliver the card, it will be returned to the facility at which the card was requested. The card will then be held in a secure location at the facility for 90 days. If the card is not picked up within the 90-day period, the card will be destroyed.
What do I need to bring in order to be in-person proofed?

You need to bring the following:

∑ At least one form of photo identification issued by a federal or state government. This includes a state-issued driver's license, identification card, or U.S. passport (expired or unexpired).

∑ A secondary form of identification. This includes a birth certificate, social security card, or picture ID from a non-governmental entity (for example, a university ID).

∑ If the addresses on your identification items don't match the address in DEERS, you need to bring proof of residency. This can be can be a utility bill, phone bill, financial statement, mortgage voucher, or rent voucher.

How do I find out if I am eligible for any medical care or drug benefits?

You are eligible to apply for VA health care if you are a veteran of active military service and were discharged or released from service under honorable conditions, provided that you meet minimum duty requirements.

To apply for health care benefits, you will need a copy of your discharge papers and will need to fill out a form called 1010EZ. The form can be downloaded from https://www.1010ez.med.va.gov/sec/vha/1010ez/
or you can call 1-877-222-VETS and ask to have one mailed to you.

GET YOUR VETERAN'S DISCOUNT CARD!

You will need to go to Doylestown to the Registrar of Deeds to get your card.

You must bring a copy of your DD214.

The card is good for discounts at many businesses in Bucks County. If the date sounds familiar it the date to sign up for the Bucks County Honor Flight (will start at 10:30).

This is not something you want to miss out on!

Playoffs are now underway. In a first-round Ďplay-iní game Newtown defeated Yardley-Morrisville 7-3 to earn the #7 seed, thus winning the right to meet Northampton in the first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, the team fell to Northampton 13-0 to enter the losersí bracket where the next day they also fell to the Langhorne team by a score of 8-1.

The team is a young team with a new coach which ended the season with two of their pitchers among the league leaders in ERA. This bodes well for the promise of a successful 2018 season.

Thanks to all who supported the team by attending one of their games.
