Letter from the Commander

The General Membership Meeting for June will be held upstairs.

Our Council Rock North Ceremony went very well and was well attended. by the students. General Hamilton gave a very nice speech. The Post was represented by about a dozen Post members. We have to do better than that.

This yearís Memorial Service held at the Macedonia Baptist Church was attended by about a dozen Post members which, while better than last, year is not representative of the 302 members we have. The Commander gave a great speech which was very well received by the people there.

The Post Color Guard and Rifle Squad represented the Post very well. Sgt. At Arms Larry Kerwood did an great job with the rifle squad as usual and John Heenan gave and excellent speech at the town hall. Newly minted Chaplain Chuck Resch also did a fine job. The rain kept member participation below what we would have hoped for but maybe next year will be much better. A hearty thank you to those who marched in the Parade to honor our deceased brothers and sisters.

At the May General Membership Meeting we accepted nominations for Commander, Sr. Vice and Jr. Vice Commander. Mike Errico will be our Commander, Vic Teat will be our Sr. Vice and Dick Lima will be our Jr. Vice. Mike has experience as Commander from his previous Post, Vic and Dick have been active Post members for some time and are eager to assist Mike in keeping OUR Post the BEST. Thanks to these Post members for stepping up and accepting the nominations. I know we will all support them in their efforts and we hope more members will step up in the future.

MEMORIAL DAY 2016 PHOTOS
WEST POINT SABRE PRESENTED TO POST 440

Read the story here . . .

Post 440 Presentation to Eagle Scout from Troop 99 - 8/7/16

Once again, Post 440 is at the forefront of American Legion activities and events.

Dedication of POW/MIA chair at the
new Doylestown Courthouse for
Capt. Ralph W. Galati, U.S.A.F.,
downed pilot in the Vietnam War.

A Great Story for our Post.

The story was that John McGovern, Jim Anderson and John Heenan (all Post members) met Gen. Brady Wed., July 1, 2015 at the AOH in Swedesberg, PA. General Brady gave a brief talk about the Irish role in receiving the Medal of Honor from the Civil War up to today. 70% of MOH recipients were Irish. Also discussed was the MOH grove in Valley Forge.

While in college at Seattle University, Pat Brady initially hated the compulsory ROTC program and was kicked out. Then, realizing he would probably be drafted after graduation he reentered the ROTC to enter the service as an officer.

After graduation he was commissioned a 2d Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps in 1959. During his two tours in Vietnam he flew over 2,000 combat missions and evacuated more than 5,000 wounded.

He was one of only two men to receive BOTH the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Major General in 1993 after 34 years of service.
