The December meeting had a nice turnout and the information presented by Dan Fraley and Betty Carleo was appreciated by all who where there. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick had many good things to say about our Post. Thanks to Eddie Hackett, Jerry DeYoung, Bob Williams and Skip Scarborough for taking the time to set things up. Post looked great.

Anyone interested in welcoming home our brother veterans from overseas at Fort Dix and would like to volunteer is required to complete an orientation session (Jan 10th, 2012) and a security background check. To get on the base for the orientation you have to contact Gale Lynch at the Red Cross (609-267-9595) and she will tell you the steps that need to be taken. Brother Post members Dave Hesdon and Fred Hofstaedter both attend these functions and Dave will be glad to answer any questions or share experiences with you. Jdh0630@yahoo.com

2011 was an excellent year for the Morell Smith Post. We had a few presentations at the Post and saw our membership increase. Let’s continue the growth of the Post and American Legion by introducing a veteran friend or neighbor to our Post. The best way to serve the well being of our fellow vets is to bring them into the Legion family. Again, any ideas for presentations or activities are always welcome. It’s your Post, be active and support it. Commander Guy is always receptive to your thoughts and ideas.

Commander Guy thanks all members for their attendance at our meetings and their constructive comments during the meetings. He reminds all that should you know of a member who is ill to please contact Service Officer Ernie Pitts and anyone with membership problems to contact Membership Chairman Joe Lamplugh.

MEMBERSHIP

* * * * * * * * * * * * * MEMBERSHIP NOTICE * * * * * * * * * * * * *

CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION, MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN JOE LAMPLAUGH DOES NOT HAVE A HOT LINE TO THE STATE LEGION. THEY DO NOT NOTIFY JOE AS YOU PAY ON-LINE.

MEMBERS PAYING THEIR ANNUAL DUES ON-LINE WERE INSTRUCTED TO SEND THEIR RECEIPT TO JOE TO RECEIVE THEIR MEMBERSHIP CARDS.

THE STATE LEGION, ONCE A MONTH, WILL SEND JOE A LIST OF ALL MEMBERS WHO HAVE PAID THEIR ANNUAL DUES ON-LINE FOR THAT MONTH. ONLY ONCE A MONTH.

IF YOU WANT YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD FASTER THAN THAT, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAIL YOUR RECEIPT TO JOE. BETTER YET, BRING YOUR RECEIPT TO A MEETING. A PHONE CALL OR E MAIL WILL NOT EXPEDITE YOUR CARD. UNTIL NOTIFIED BY THE STATE BY THE MONTHLY REPORT, JOE WILL HOLD YOUR CARD.

Membership in the American Legion is limited to veterans who served during the following periods:

World War I April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918
World War II December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946
Korean War June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955
Vietnam War February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975
Lebanon/Grenada December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990
Operation Desert Storm/Shield August 2, 1990 to today
